Tour Overview

Climb Mount Kilimanjaro from the scenic and less-traveled northern side via the Rongai Route. This 6-day trek is known for its gradual slope, beautiful wilderness, and drier conditions, making it a great choice for first-time climbers. As the only route approaching Kilimanjaro from the north, Rongai offers a quiet, remote wilderness experience with stunning views and high success rates to Uhuru Peak.

Sample Trip Outline

Day Day 1 : Rongai Gate to Simba Camp (2,625m)

Drive from Moshi to the Rongai Gate near the Kenya border. Begin trek through pine forests to Simba Camp. Gentle slope, good for acclimatization. Overnight in tents.

Day Day 2: Simba Camp to Second Cave (3,450m)

Hike through moorland with views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. Arrive at Second Cave Camp for hot meals and rest.

Day Day 3 : Second Cave to Kikelewa Camp (3,600m)

Continue climbing toward the alpine zone. The trail becomes steeper. Stunning views of Kenya’s plains. Overnight at Kikelewa Camp.

Day Day 4 : Kikelewa to Mawenzi Tarn (4,330m)

Short but steep climb up grassy slopes. Reach Mawenzi Tarn camp, located beneath the towering Mawenzi Peak. Afternoon acclimatization hike recommended.

Day Day 5 : Mawenzi Tarn to Kibo Hut (4,700m)

Cross the lunar desert saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. Reach Kibo Hut and rest for the midnight summit attempt.

Day Day 6 : Summit Day (5,895m) & Descent

Start around midnight for the final ascent to Uhuru Peak via Gilman’s Point. Enjoy sunrise from the highest point in Africa. Descend to Horombo Hut for rest and celebration. Transfer back the following morning.
