Starting from Naro Moru Park Gate, this trail ascends through lush rainforest, bamboo zones, and alpine moorlands before reaching the Teleki Valley and Point Lenana at 4,985 meters. Naro Moru is the most direct and popular route to the summit, known for the challenging “Vertical Bog,” high-altitude views, and hut accommodation along the way. Sample Trip Outline
Day Day 1 : Naro Moru Gate to Met Station (3,050m)
Drive from Nairobi to Mount Kenya National Park. Begin hiking from Naro Moru Gate through forest and bamboo to Met Station. Approx. 3–4 hours trekking. Dinner and overnight at the hut.
Day Day 2 : Met Station to Mackinder’s Camp (4,200m)
Continue through the “Vertical Bog” and moorlands into Teleki Valley. Enjoy sweeping views of Batian and Nelion peaks. Arrive at Mackinder’s Camp for dinner and overnight.
Day Day 3 : Summit Point Lenana (4,985m) & Descend to Met Station
Start early for a pre-dawn summit attempt of Point Lenana. Enjoy sunrise views across Kenya’s central highlands. Descend back to Mackinder’s for breakfast, then continue down to Met Station.
Day Day 4 : Return to Naro Moru Gate & Drive to Nairobi
Trek the final forest section back to the gate. Say goodbye to the crew and transfer back to Nairobi. End of trek.
